Twin Cities Decorative Artist Meeting
Held at Valley Community Presbyterian

We will use real geranium leaves as stamps
and introduce a new technique of color
sanding using color pencils.

This class is being sponsored by the Twin
Cities Decorative Artists.  You do not have To
be a member To attend.  You may attend as a
guest for a $6 class fee and a $15 supply fee.

The meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. and class will
start around 11:00 a.m.  You need To get
there at 9:30 so that your attendance fee can
be processed.   You are invited To participate
in the meeting, or you can bring a book To
read.

You MUST contact me if you are coming!

This class will be approximately 2-3 hours.

Grapevine

Using real grape leaves, you will design your
own painting.  You can make it a vertical or
horizontal piece.  Watercolor, multi media, this
project has it all.  We will use various techniques
and tricks to create this masterpiece.


Cost is $60 and includes watercolor paper with
traced design, pattern packet, photo of finished
paintings, line drawing, and misc. supplies.  
Bring your watercolor pallet or for an additional
$5 you can buy a paint pallet from me.

This workshop is a perfect opportunity for the
beginner painter as well as the experienced
painter To learn techniques enabling them
To complete successful watercolor
paintings.  Carol shares her step-by-step
approach To painting with students of all
levels.  All projects include written
instructions, a line drawing and a color
photo.  Drawing ability is not necessary,
allowing the student To focus on the
mechanics of painting.  Carol paints
watercolor with an emphasis on wet into wet
watercolor techniques.  Each day of class
will include a separate project with the
expectation of going home with completed
paintings.  One day of class will focus on
painting a watercolor batik incorporating
watercolor, rice paper and wax To create an
exciting alternative To traditional watercolor.

Supply List  
Standard Painting Supplies:  two water containers; spray
bottle with a fine mist (old hair spray bottles/eyeglass
cleaner bottles work well); paper towels or old towel; cotton
rag; pop -up tissues; wood board/gator board to support
your painting; kneaded eraser; white eraser; metal pallet
knife; cut up credit card;  soap; scissors; salt; 2” wide (or
so) cheap masking tape; YES Paste; Incredible White
Masking Fluid; pencil;100% cotton gauze; light box to
transfer pattern (or you can borrow mine,) or waxless
graphite paper
to transfer pattern; and Arches 140 cold
press paper, at least 2 sheets. If you can not travel with full
sheets, contact me before the class and I can let you know
the sizes for the paintings so you can tear your paper ahead
of time.

Brushes: 1 1/2" flat; #14 round; #8 round; # 6 rigger/liner;
1/2” flat brush; a cheap Oriental brush (a natural hair round
brush); an older flat brush to apply paste; a # 8 (or so) white
nylon round brush to apply masking fluid; a 2 1/2” or 3”
Hake brush to apply water to paper; and a small and a
large scrubby brush, usually shaped like a filbert but stiffer,
like a size #2 and a #6.

Batik supplies:  a black permanent marker like an ultra fine
Sharpie or .02 Pigma Micron or IDenti Pen-extra fine.  Also
bring about 30 sheets of old newspapers (not the shinny
ads) to use
to iron out the wax for the batik.  I will have rice
paper available for purchase for the batik painting.  If you
are flying let me know and I can bring newspapers for you.

Pallet:  I use mainly transparent, non staining colors.  I try to
use the cheapest paints I can to achieve the look I like.  You
do not have to purchase the exact brands that I use.

Use your own pallet.  These are the colors I usually use:
•        Rembrandt Brand paints:  Azo Yellow Light, Alizarin
Crimson, Ultra Marine Blue, Quinacridone Rose, Turquoise
•        American Journey/ Cheap Joes’ Brand: Cobalt Blue,
Joe’s Blue (Phalo Blue) Midnight Blue (Indanthrene Blue)
•        Windsor Newton paint:  Antwerp   
•        Daniel Smith paint:  Quinacridone Gold, Quinacridone
Burnt Orange, Quinacridone Coral, Quinacridone Red,
Quinacridone Magenta, Verditer Blue (which is a mixture of
Cobalt Blue and Cerulean Blue,) and Opera.

Misc.  Misc. rubber stamps for backgrounds.  I will have
some to share.  Old paintings that you are not afraid to tear
up or experiment with.  I will have some extras if all your
paintings are gems.

Don’t Panic.  I plan to have brushes, boards and other
supplies for sale, especially the supplies that are really
necessary for the projects.  If you have any questions about
